The Comox Valley Business Network was formed in 2007 by founding members Mackenzie Gartside, Phil Levesconte, Garry DeWitt, Ryan Williams, Ewa Doyle and Val Wright, who had a vision for a group of professionals who meet on a regular basis, to help one another grow their businesses.
The membership represents non-competing Valley businesses that range from individual entrepreneurial ventures and small businesses to franchisees. The group is largely co-operative, referring group members to outside potential customers, as well as using one another’s products and services within the group. Over the past 4 years, the CVBN has become home to a diverse and varied group, and has grown to its current size of about 25 members.
Structure – The CVBN has a panel of volunteer executives, whom are voted in by the group on an annual basis. The panel consists of President, Vice President, and Treasurer.
Attendance and Group Commitment – Since the success and effectiveness of any referral group is largely dependent on the active participation of all its members, regular and consistent attendance at our weekly meetings is a key responsibility of being a member of the CVBN. This will ensure that all members reap the maximum benefit from membership, and increases the amount of referrals. It also helps members stay current on activity within the group, including awareness of new and outgoing members, for referral purposes.
Membership – Prospective members are invited to attend 3 FREE meetings to try out the group. Membership fees are $100 per year, and are due on the anniversary of the member’s joining of the group. Membership fees are used throughout the year for group promotion, events, fundraisers and to sponsor local charities.
Community – Annually, the CVBN chooses a local charity or community group to whom the group will contribute financial support throughout the year. This selection is made by members nominating a recipient, with the group voting on the nominees. Typically, this decision is made at the same time as the annual appointment of the executive panel.
Events – Throughout the year, the CVBN organizes a number of fun events for the group members to enjoy, including a mixer, a Christmas party and a summer BBQ.
